The Royal Caledonian Society of South Australia
Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, who has died aged 96.
The Queen passed away “peacefully” with her beloved family at her bedside at Scotland’s Balmoral Castle.
The death of our much-loved monarch has plunged Britain, and indeed Australia and so many countries of the Commonwealth into mourning.
We owe our Royal name to her father King George VI. Some of the Royal Caledonian Society council members had the honour of meeting Her Majesty at Sir Edmund Wright House in 1981. Some members of our Pipes and Drums also had the honour of meeting her in 2016 when they were at Windsor Castle where they had been invited to play for her 90th birthday celebrations. These are memories that are very special, particularly at this sad time.
She was a wonderful woman who worked tirelessly for her country and Commonwealth all her life, right to the end and never retired.
A library of knowledge and a lifetime of wisdom. She will never be forgotten by our generation and the world will be a much poorer place for her passing.
“We are all visitors to this time, this place. Our purpose here is
to observe, to learn, to grow to love, and then we return home”
May She Rest in Peace.
